"i love him so much i can't help it. i want him so much i can't help it. yes. i am quite aware that his wife is an unusually sweet person and his little girl is lovely, but i have been stood on God's platform of judgement and i haven't a trace of guilty conscience. man was born for love and revolution. there is no reason for God to punish me. i am not in the least wicked..."

gross that she wants to be a home-wrecker and i’d hate to romanticise it, but i find this quote compelling. something can be said about a love that makes you selfish and strips away your sense of morality. she is aware of the damage it could cause but continues to pursue it. her desires have overridden her conscience. in order to justify her love, she has deluded herself into believing that her behaviour is inherent to the human condition. but if humans were made for love and revolution, then at what point does seeking it become a sin? where is the line between fighting for what we want and taking what was never ours?
