A lot of exposition but the dialogue keeps it from becoming dry.

This author knows how to right a FMC well. She's not a Mary Sue but also isn't a victim of the "not like other girls"isms that plague fantasy. Not much on the MMC yet. The opening was powerful though but that might be me relating to having an older sister growing up.
