There is a distinct tonal shift between Gardens of the Moon and Deadhouse Gates. GotM felt more narrative, but there's a sense of hope and wistfulness. DG is just brutally pragmatic and Felisin's thoughts about her prostitution are just there. Her two companions are horrified at what she has had to do and she's just like there was a decision to be made and I made it.
