Anyone got an old review of a very popular book that they couldn't have cared less about since closing the final page but which gets an enormous amount of likes and comments. Mine is Kuang's 'The Dragon Republic'. I'm like, "Ooh, a notification!" And then I see it's just a DR like again! 🤣

most of them! People only like my half-assed rants about books I give zero shit about! Every time I see a notification, just like you, I get excited for a second. What if someone wants to talk to me about some cool book I've read?? But nah...

What if someone wants to talk to m...":D I mean, I can't blame the people who like it, I guess, they have no way of knowing that my care factor is zero but it's funny when people make impassioned comments, positive or negative, as though some sub-par fantasy book that I read years ago and rated poorly would maintain any sort of impression on me :D
In your case, this might be the curse of the hilarity of your rant reviews but 100% I can see the annoyance of them getting more attention than your positive reviews which have more potential for meaningful discussion.

Ha! You got me, Col! Sure am buddy! :D
Moby Dick... Yeah, you weren't a fan if I remember correctly. That's one that could definitely hurt a few people's feelings :D
I think the whole of South-East Aussie-land is awash! What? This is not a private chat? It's gone out to eveyone? Now I'm done for. I've trasheed what some readers call a masterpiece.
It was J O'Neill's fault...
nastya wrote: "Then I guess you are all lucky that I am a certified hater."I'm actually guilty of getting sucked in by negative reviews. Evidenced by the fact that I just recently bought a whole lexicon of musical invection directed at composers since Beethoven 😂
That's a little different though, the hilarity in that will likely be how wrong, in hindsight, the critics were. I suspect you're points are more often than not, valid :)

I'll chuck a link here to your review if you like... Increase traffic... Spice things up a little! :D

Geez, noooo...
I take back everything I said about J O'Neill. He's a great bloke and loves music.
There. Is that enough to get me some leniency?
Back to the weather - it's very soggy down here, Jonathan.

yep omg my review for Crescent City! and the dread when i see someone new has commented to tear into me :')
Ellie wrote: "yep omg my review for Crescent City! and the dread when i see someone new has commented to tear into me :')"😆 The comment with no accompanying like gives that away every time. I get so much hate from simpletons on my 'Tress of the Emerald Sea' review. The Sando cult can be very protective as I sure Maas' can :D
My review for 'A Cook's Tour' still gets an occasional like and comment, and my newer reviews get crickets! This website is just one quirk after another 😂
Gabrielle (Reading Rampage) wrote: "My review for 'A Cook's Tour' still gets an occasional like and comment, and my newer reviews get crickets! This website is just one quirk after another 😂"Just sent another like and comment your way! 🤣
In fairness, it is a very good review/love letter! :)

Aw, thank you, I appreciate that! I would still love it if newer reviews got a fraction of the attention that love letter got me 😉😁
Yes..my review of 'Lessons in Chemistry' along with 'Nothing To See Here', the third being 'The Plot'
I never read sanderson so those people don’t know I exist, but I wonder if I get pretentious angry dudebros if I dislike the new Pynchon book, hehe.
Jonathan wrote: "Yes..my review of 'Lessons in Chemistry' along with 'Nothing To See Here', the third being 'The Plot'"If you're anything like me, people might be waiting a while for comments on those reviews, namesake! 😁
nastya wrote: "I never read sanderson so those people don’t know I exist, but I wonder if I get pretentious angry dudebros if I dislike the new Pynchon book, hehe."Ha! I like the idea of pretentious, "intellectual" dudebros as opposed to the typical gym dudebros one might expect to encounter. 😂
That's me with The Burning God lol I just wanna forget that series ever existed, but do I get the chance? No. 😔
Warda wrote: "That's me with The Burning God lol I just wanna forget that series ever existed, but do I get the chance? No. 😔"Ha! Wards, it's the gift that you never wanted but, nevertheless, it just keeps on giving! 😆
It's the default for me here, all my most 'liked' reviews are negative or for books I didn't care about. Negativity sells, mate. :P

This is funny 'cos I just started a book purely made up of the negative criticism of composers since Beethoven 😆
