The starting essays are rather fantastic. Sometimes I think Cage seems a little dismissive of the past which is a tendency that annoys me in people but that is likely a misinterpretation. Definitely inspiring in regard to the ways I utilise chance operations in my work. I'll say this - with the discourse around AI, it's interesting to hear the old avant garde talk about eliminating human intent.

I'd say the relationship between the experimental and the neo-classical is more dialectical and less clean than Cage implies. I also have less faith in the idea of individualism. Still compelling.
