I'm enjoying the story but the writing is incredibly distracting. It almost feels detached in a way? I will be reading, find myself half way through a page only to realise I've been in an action scene.

This is strangely beautiful alright. The narrative shifts are a little jarring and I imagine it'll only get worse, but I don't hate it. This was on my Libby wish list for ages and I can't remember why exactly. I'm guessing it was part of my Ripper-mania reading list a couple of years ago, since it's set in 88.
