I love that Playfair compared the tower to the seelie court. The description of the silver smithy especially made me think of Celebrimbor's smithy from the Rings of Power series. (Very different elves but still.)

Calling it early, might be wrong. Language is beautiful. When it comes to the colonial languages I am best able to appreciate that beauty via authors who subversively reimagine it as compositional elements of novels etc, usu because they create from/with different epistemologies/ontologies. I'm worried Babel is going to be that anti-war movie that wins all the technical Oscars because it was shot so beautifully.

honestly , wasn’t a fan of it in the beginning as i started with a soft copy and the footnotes made reading rough as it came at the end not at passage on my device. it was after getting the physical copy, i was like “ah yes” this is how it should be read. and similar issues with kevin kwan’s books and how they format on my device

I really wonder how the narrator and audiobook readers made out with them. The person I had in mind complained that Kuang had mistakenly relied on the footnotes to explain what should have been in the main text. Which is why I don't think, if I got their point, they're clear on what footnotes do.
