First 100 pages set scene for battles leading up to Yorktown. Wherever Washington is described we also read of tense interplay with French who were needed to counterbalance the superior numbers of British ships off American coasts.

Promising start to this years 4th of July book. Washington said "never was a people who had more reason to acknowledge a divine interposition in their affairs than those of the United States". The early pages filled with ineeptitude and misunderstanding leading to american success as well as hurricaines and storms the likes of which had never been seen leading to French changes in tactics bear this out.
