I caved in and started reading this on the train.
Amazed that Butler's other drafts were much darker than her final ones + fascinated by her writing process & thoughts on publishing (i.e. what she thought would sell vs. what she wrote.)
This book also makes me wish I had access to the Huntington Archive to read her manuscripts.
It's comforting to know that Butler re-wrote too.

'In all of these works we see characters who make the radical choice to live, at whatever cost, and therefore for their children to live, even when this choice means political or moral comprises within a monstrous or inhuman system.'

I've only read Butler's Dawn so far but I'm glad I'm not the only one troubled by the Imperialist tendencies of the Oankali. I found myself sympathising with both the humans & the Oankali at times but I couldn't get over the consent issues between them.
