Chapter 8 is about the psychological and spiritual harms of not leading from the heart. Whenever we go against the purpose of something that thing becomes abused by us.
1. The worship of the self: the worshipping of the self is rooted in a disconnect from the heart which lead to us living from other places, lower facets within us to make us feel temporarily good. Chasing desires and feeding the ego.

Chapter 6 is about truth and how it is a crucial rule in aligning ourselves. Having “authenticity” which is doing things that are true to your core identity. The opposite of authenticity is hypocrisy; when what we say and do is in opposition or conflicting with what we claim to believe. What defines what I true is what we actually believe in our heart not our mind. Hypocrisy is a form of self deception.

6 Principles of understanding Love through the Divine
1. True love is an experience of the Heart: the heart is the part within us designed to experience love and the most powerful tool we have to connect to God’s love. You cannot experience real love with the mind or ego; only with the heart.

The beginning of chapter 5 is all about love. True divine love. “the H.O.M.E method is rooted in the belief that we cannot grow, heal, transform mentally emotionally and practice our faith beautifully without love being the foundation of such a journey”. We cannot truly connect with anything without love first. We need to connect to God’s love for us. For he has more love for us than a mother can for her child.

Chapter 4 explores the human life’s purpose. The “why”. Our ultimate existential purpose in the earth. Why god created us. Without this knowledge we will never truly who we are, we will experience a life that lacks grounding and deep meaning; emptiness. Allah says “I did not create jinn or mankind expect to worship me”. Going against this purpose that our creator designed us in this way will only harm us.

Chapter 3 introduces the quote “Whoever knows himself, knows his lord”. It is deeper than just knowing your flaw and fixing your mistakes. It means knowing yourself fully not partly. Knowing you, the entirety of you to then know your lord. To understand you, to love you. To hold yourself accountable when needed, not being overly critical of yourself. Your inner knowing and your knowing of God can coexist.

Chapter 2 encapsulates the importance of working on yourself as a whole: emotionally, mentally, physically, and spiritually. Not focusing on one or some but all because they are inevitable connected. The relationship with between you and yourself and the relationship with your parents. The teachings of Allah that he himself gave to us not what someone interpreted on their own and then passed it down to us.

I feel so happy to have finally hold in my hands a book that fits all that am I searching for. My religion and my love for psychology all in one place. I’ve finished the first two chapters. I’ve learned that it’s no use letting your mind and ego lead rather than the truth, your heart. God has placed us in this body on this earth temporarily and our true home is where our soul belongs; with the lord himself.

1. The Ruh (the soul/spirit): the most permanent part within us. The part that transcends the human experience. The part within us that returns to its lord.
2. The Qalb (the heart): often referred to as the spiritual heart not the biological heart in our physical bodies. The spiritual heart that is contained within the physical heart. It is taught in Islam that there are things or realities that we cannot see with the sight (or eye) of the heart. The truth that the heart has the ability to see. It has the ability to see truths that we cannot see with our eyes.
3. The Aql (intellect/cognition): these are tools that help us think, understand, make sense, and interpret what we witness, interact with, and absorb from the world. It helps us process and understand our experiences in this world. “The Aql” when it is mentioned in the Quran isn’t in the context where it translates to the word “brain” because in the Quran intellect and cognition are a tool and function that is not specific to the rational brain or mind. This very function is also a function of our hearts not only our brain. Which tells us that not only the brain can have the ability to reflect, contemplate, see, and understand, but also the heart can.
4. Emotions: God mentions in the Quran various emotional experiences such as happiness, sadness, grief, fear, hope, and anger. They are a gift designed to help us navigate our inner world. They help us connect to ourselves, each other, and above all, our creator himself.
5. The Nafs (self): these Quran refers to this word to describe the entire self. Sometimes referring to our soul, and sometimes to the lower self (or ego). There are 3 different levels or stages of the Nafs which include: “an-nafs al-ammarah bil su” which means “the self that incites to evil”. This self is fueled by the ego and its worldly desires. It is the lower self. It has not yet matured or elevated spiritually. The middle level is called “nafs al lawamma” which means “the self critical or reproaching self.” The self that is trying not to give into the desire of the ego. The self that is putting in effort towards elevating beyond the lower self. The stage where you’re aware of conscious of your actions and behaviors. The highest level or stage is called “nafs Al mutama’inah.” Which means the “tranquil self.” The self that is aligned with its fitrah (Gods truths). The self that is freed from lower-order desires. The self that is aligned with the soul.
