I'm enjoying this much more than I thought I would. The writing reminds me a little of Jonas Jonasson (who wrote 'The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out of the Window and Disappeared'), and I wouldn't be at all surprised to learn that Jonasson was a fan of Halldor Laxness.
