المدن لا تفقد عقلها، لا تجن. روما لك تجن عندما احرقها نيرون. برلين لم تجن عندما زج بها هتلر في بحار الموت. سانتياغو لم تجن عندما حولها بينوشي الى وليمة فظائع. بيروت لم تجن. حلب لن تجن.

اليوم و اكثر من اي يوم مضى من السهل القول ان بيروت التي عاش فيها زياد لم تكن مكتملة و جاهزة و تنتظر قدومه لقد ساهم في صنعها. و من المجازفة القول انها لم تعمّر طويلًا. لم يفت الاوان بعد ربما لم يات اوان موتها هذا في حد ذاته نوع من الحياة.
