Wow, that may have been one of the most bleak chapters I’ve read in Trollope, about the effects of the potato famine. Trollope’s compassion really comes through in his character Herbert’s reflections. I think Herbert might be one of Trollope’s most conscientious and thoughtful characters.

This has got to be one of the most moving father/son scenes in Trollope!

It just occurred to me that the Lady Fitzgerald plot mirrors the Clara plot. Clever!
