"Kids who are obedient and follow orders become accustomed to doing what they are told without understanding why & without autonomy. Kids raised under this programming are mysteriously expected, once emancipated, to suddenly be able to make decisions & choices on their own. Most children's upbringing gives them no opportunity to choose, to experience the consequences of their choices or to make cooperative choices."

"If a kid doesn't enjoy school, chances are school is not a good place for the kid. We assume that kids will be interested in learning when learning is interesting, when it's good for them. However, if school is a nasty, uptight, competitive place filled with social & racial strife, authoritarianism, & injunctions against spontaneity, awareness, & intimacy, it makes sense that kids might want to stay away."
