There is nothing in him but what may ravish our affections…he hath nothing in him which can be a proper object of contempt, no defects or shadow of evil; there is infinite excellency to charm us, and infinite goodness to allure us; the author of our beings, the benefactor of our lives…He is the most lovely object, therefore to be studied, therefore to be honoured, therefore to be followed.

Loving the way Johnson weaves together the attributes, priming us for a right, useful understanding of simplicity. Also of note:
Johnson treats the attributes by way of contrast (rather than seeking out weak comparisons like Grudem). Even a “communicable” attribute like love is, in God, far beyond me when considered alongside His omnipotence. I have to worship, rather than reflect on the shadow that is my love.
