Meandering and very little plot. It seems that Heinlein likes to “write about shit happening”. It’s like a story without plot and people being 100% smug at each other. How boring. I’m so glad I can listen to this as an audiobook on 1.5x speed to get through it faster.

Jill is starting to grow on me. It could be that other characters aren't commenting on how naive/ignorant she is. Yay! Jubal Harshaw, on the other hand, seems like a stand-in for Lazarus Long. Shit! The part with Jill trying to rescue/kidnap Valentine was exciting, and Jubal is an expert at sucking the excitement from a scene because he knows every $#%@ thing and there's no more suspense.

Hey, the story is starting to get good and interesting. Jill isn't as useless as I'd originally thought (down to 85% uselessness from the 99%), and I'm curious to see what happened to her friend Crenshaw who had his cab hijacked by the government. I'm actually interested to see what happens, but I know that Heinlein will let me down, so I know to not get too excited.

Jill Boardman is a bitch and I hope she dies. Unfortunately, she's one of the main characters. It's too bad, because I was starting to enjoy this.
