“Balls and sass” is a quote that gives Jared confidence to put on a front that will get him through difficult times. I’ve noticed a common thing amongst fantasy where there’s one thought or line that the character refers back to help them overcome their fears and struggles.

This whole portion of the book where they’re now traveling in a wagon and hiding and trying to find their way to a secret place reminds me so much of TOG where Lorcan and Elide have to do the same thing. Lots of quarreling and finding ways to sneak around and hide. Lia has a bit of a Lysandra character in her where she was able to shape shift in the Gray Queen.
