I swear every chapter introduces a brand new character you’ve never heard of before and will never hear of past that chapter. There are no real tangible through lines from one chapter to another. Makes this book extremely difficult to follow and be invested in - almost in the exact same way as one hundred years of solitude is

Not a great sign when I have to move the audiobook up to 3x speed from my standard 1.5-2x. Look it’s just that I don’t have ANY investment in ANY of these characters because I know they’ll be gone in a few pages and I’ll never hear from them again. No one seems to have any impact on the plot bc as far as I can tell there really is no overarching plot.
