I am loving this book. It is a collection of essays, selected by the author for this volume, shortly before he died. Shepard is an author of wide breadth, so it is no surprise some of the essays resonated more than others. So far I liked The Metaphysical Bear, about humanity and mythology, and On the Significance of Being Shaped by the Past, about humanity's life as hunter gatherers.

A book of essays so some more engaging than others. The scholarship is old (70s, 80s, Shepard died in 1996) but refreshing all the same. A critique on modernity and what humanity lost giving up hunter/gatherer lifestyle
