In this part of the story I have been introduced to a people in Mongolia known as the Xiongnu(Ancient Huns). The Xiongnu are a very powerful people who created a powerful empire in Northern Asia. One of the Xiongnu groups, the Huns are now on their way to Europe trying to find a place where they can permanently settle.

There are many new characters in the book so far like Attila the Hun and Bleda(Attila's brother). The Huns are now Europe helping the Roman Empire fighting off the barbarians. The reason why the Huns are helping the Romans is because the Romans are paying them tribute. But when the Romans don't give them tribute the Huns start to attack the Roman Empire.

The story first starts with an introduction like normal stories. It gives us(the reader) background information about Attila the Hun. The story starts with the failure of a Roman expedition in Germany. Then the author talks about how the Roman Empire fell.
