So far im entertained but not interested. This def feels self-published, the characters are pretty one note and flat, the author could do more interesting stuff with the no lying mechanic he's built in. Story has good bones but needs more refinement. sometimes it seems like characters just know things or trust other people with no real justification, like the story has to move on and he coulnt make it better

I wish this author knew what a place description was. I have no idea what anything looks like, there is such an absurd lack of "place" in this book. I wish islington new what an adjective was. He cannot stop telling and not showing. "They talked for the evening and felt closer afterwards" SHOW ME THAT you cant just put all of the character development off screen and want me to care about these people

so much of the plot hinges on characters pretending to be asleep and convieniently overhearing really important information

Things just kind of happen, all of the characters are way too trusting for the positions their in. It feels like the characters have no agency and are just pushed from one situation to the next because thats where the plot needs to go. None of them react properly, all of the interactions that would show me who they are to each other are waved away with "they talked as they walked" like show me that? dont just tell me
