So he realizes that what propelled him to becoming an adjunct was largely his choice (or collections of choices). He doesn't think he's a parallel to the students ending up equally over their heads when they go back to school. I wasn't sure the parallel was there...but I'm glad it's not.

In the middle of the author going on about the woeful state of many returning college students' writing abilities there's what should be an essay to his wife...one of the drama movie moments where she accidentally discovers it before he sends it to the publisher and it starts them back on the road to happiness. It felt out of place in this book.
