i really appreciate the translators commentary bc i think:
1 — it really shows how hard translations can be, esp with a language like japanese to english in order to convey the same feeling
2 — they really tried to understand where Ango was coming from when he said some questionable (?) things, and clear it up using context/his own values by essentially not putting words in his mouth/wanting to misinterpret

Already the intro has me hooked, especially the translators describing ango as "Simply, a sweet hearted, brilliant man in round spectacles, who thinks it must be better to be unhappy because he just might be the only one who's gone deep enough to discover the secret to happiness long before the rest of us catch on.”
