I looked like hell. Blood matted my hair, pressing it against my scalp. An errant swing had left a bruise across my jawline that was an ugly shade of purple and green. Holding up my hands, I saw they were swollen from repeated blows, the knuckles bloodied from deflecting the swinging rod. I didn’t look like a math student, I looked like a prizefighter.

Inside the column, the air was warm and the light soft. The encircling wall, opaque, was a soothing mauve. Pure oxygen circulated the enclosure. None of these atmospherics palliated L1’s yellow glare. The “L” stood for lycomorph. Of course they couldn’t just use the word that everyone knew, Valmont reflected mordantly; the powers that be wanted a bit of neologistic jargon, to reduce the thing.

This quote "his tongue flicking out lizard-like when he did. I was mesmerized by the track of a single oily bead of sweat inching down his forehead." really describes this assumed sleezball and really makes him sound like a full blown reptile haha 😂

The second story is like a mix between the Christmas lectures and a ted talk but this quote stood out "So Azathoth lays within those strange fractal spaces between dimensions, and that’s how Its tendrils can reach us." is consent even a thing hahaha

Just finished the opening story and not sure why i found it so devastating :( we're off to a good start!
