A Floating Fortress has locked up the labor that would build several hundred cargo ships. Ultimately it is scrapped and obsolete, never having brought any material benefit to anybody.”

“The world-view of the Party imposed itself most successfully on ppl incapable of understanding it. They could accept flagrant violations of reality, bc they never grasped what was demanded of them, and were not sufficiently interested in public events to notice. By lack of understanding they remained sane. They swallowed everything, and what they swallowed did them no harm, because it left no residue behind.”
