" L'amour, c'est que tu sois pour moi le couteau avec lequel je fouille en moi ".

As Marguerite Duras said, " you have to be stronger than your pain, or it will destroy you ".

The knife isn't literal, and neither is the love. A love that doesn't protect - it pierces. A scalpel in the hands of someone who knows exactly where to cut.

How beautiful is Kafka’s quote in French. Love is not a bourgeois sentiment, because it is not a contract. Love wounds — and Kafka embraces pain as a path to self-knowledge. For Luís de Camões, the 16th-century Portuguese poet, love is “a fire that burns unseen, a contentment that brings discontent.” In Kafka, there is anguish and acceptance; in Camões, epic and myth. Love cannot be domesticated — or so I say. Love is a paradox.

Merci.

Théo d'Or Bonjour, Celeste !

Yes, it sounds as beautiful as it is painful...And Yes , you're absolutely right ! Kafka embraces pain as a path to self-knowledge.
Kafka doesn't describe love as comfort. Instead, he sees Milena as the knife that allows him to dig
into his own psyche. She is not just someone he loves, she is the means by which he confronts his own inner chaos.. Something so deep, and connected with all his self..
Yes, Celeste. Love is a paradox. I see that, in every line I read.

Merci..
