One thing I'm noticing about the book so far is the sheer bleakness of it all. Not just the land is described as bleak; but the way it's described, the way they talk, the word choice, the way the sentences seem so.... exhausted. Like the person typing them was becoming exhausted halfway through writing the words. Of course the people are cruel with no kindness or mercy in sight and that is bleak, but not just that.
