The Good Shepherd cares for us and watches over us with concern for whenever we become down cast. He gently, lovingly set us back on our feet to rejoin the community or believers and Himself. Sometimes when we think we are at our best or that we’ve “made it,” is just when we fall. Thank You, God, for Your watchful loving eye!

This was refreshing for me to read and remember that only Christ can satisfy my longings. “It is He who makes sense and purpose and meaning come out of situations which otherwise would be but a mockery to me…My thirst for reality in life is assuaged, and I discover that I have found that satisfaction in my Master.” Amen. “Life is worth the living just because he lives.”

The Lord who bears our burdens & devotes himself to our care brings satisfaction that can’t even be found in having all physical needs met. > “I shall not want…I shall not lack the expert care and management of my Master.” “No wonder Jesus said, ‘I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.’ And again, ‘I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.’”

Keller beautifully outlines Christ’s authority as our Shepherd, manager, & owner. Christ created us, bought us with His life, & continually lays Himself out for us- interceding for us, guiding us, & working things out for our good. He created us as the objects of His affection & Himself made a way for us to be reconciled to Him despite people’s rejection of Him. His love for us is evident through this analogy <3
