gonna have to reread this - can't enjoy it at all. had to look it up to make sure I even understood what nabokov was going for. now that I know, still not sure if it's possible to enjoy - maybe? IDK. it appears that the point he's trying to make is really coming across based on my reaction to it, but I just don't know if I can enjoy it that way

that said, I brought it with me to read while camping, having thought it would be a relaxing fireside read. I was also really hooked on de Haas' new novel on migration, so I fear I didn't give Pale Fire the attention it deserves

to clarify what I mean by "point he's trying to make...based on my reaction" - I made it through like 50 pages of zembla and felt so damn irritated at kinbote's assessment of shade's poem that I wanted to throw the book across the room. but google tells me that that is presumably nabokov's intent. so.
