“…at the other extreme, there is Lucio, who retains something about him that is obstinately likable, though he’s clearly a basket case morally” (148).
😂 going back to read the Measure for Measure entry now that I’ve finished the play.

The Winter’s Take was over my head and Frye’s essay on it was as well. 😂 Definitely one to revisit in the future.

Interesting that Frye, in his essay on The Winter’s Tale, is calling a number of Shakespeare’s late plays his romances. They don’t fit neatly into history, comedy, or tragedy.

Brilliant first third of the Henriad chapter. My mind was firing on many cylinders!

I haven't read this one yet, but his books on The Romantics and The Bible as Literature were fantastic.

And he really writes in a way that reads as easy. Stanley Fishe is another one I like. And Veralyn Flieger. She's brilliant.
Veralyn Flieger practically invited Inklings Studies. She's a legend and very sweet and humble. I remember getting star-struck and going completely silent when I realized that she'd invited me to sit at her lunch table at a literature conference. I didn't recognize her until one of her former students walked by and said hi, Dr. Flieger. My jaw just about hit the floor. She was very sweet about dealing with a star-struck fan of her work. She doesn't like talking about herself.
Stanley Fishe wrote Surprised by Sin, which may be the best analysis of Paradise Lost I've ever read. I haven't been able to get copies of the rest of his works yet though.
