had a distinctly unpleasant dream last night where i was in a field with several hundred people, all there for the first screening of some mysterious film, except viewing the film for a certain period of time made their heads explode. so i was trapped in this field, refusing to look at the screen, surrounded by the sight and sound of hundreds of heads bursting into viscera. not saying i blame this book, but. well.

i bought the remastered full-colour edition of this while in sweden back in july with the intention of getting the full house of leaves experience on reread. going to annotate and all that. it's almost halloween and i am in a suboptimal mental state, so now is arguably the best time for it

was in the middle of reading when my mum knocked on my door to ask how i was doing. cannot remember the last time a book left me feeling genuinely disoriented when i looked away from the page. this damned house has gotten to me (could be the navidson's house. could be my parents' house. who's to say?)

thought i had some sort of profound epiphany about this book late last night. looked back on the notes i wrote. "i think part of the horror is the unease of not knowing what it is. something is haunting these pages, something stubbornly evading capture, and it draws you in [...] it does not want to be left behind, because it lives only in the minds of those who experience it". boy what are you talking about

genuinely don't think it is possible to talk about this book in only 420 characters. anyway. much like one johnny truant, i thought it'd be fun to see what the local dating scene is like. an hour later a forklift driver liked me on hinge. average norfolk dating app user. and now i realise that talking about this while discussing house of leaves makes me even more like johnny. free me

not a good book to be reading when the period cramps and indescribable leg pain hit. reading about paranoia and distress and hallucinations and the labyrinth and all of a sudden it is accompanied by The Ache. unpleasant experience. enhances the story though

this book is giving me a headache and making me frantically flick between pages in search of missing footnotes and genuinely making me question every decision that led to me purchasing it. big fan, cannot wait to read more. it is calling to me

'i cant tell you how much i'd like to deviate that fucker's septum' maybe if karen had suggested navidson take up a career in comedy rather than making him quit his photography, they could have avoided the house altogether. or maybe zampano would have simply created a different family to subject to the horrors. impossible to say

laying in bed wondering why i feel so incredibly knackered as if i didnt spend six hours straight last night standing up and follow it up with about five hours sleep. at least the pain has lessened. at least there is that

this book is the same size and texture as the aqa triple science textbooks that haunted me back in the day. not the easiest thing to hold and navigate for casual reading. we all must make sacrifices, i suppose
