Okay, so McCormack seems pretty sure that this fourth murder does not fit the Quaker's patterns, even though the killer got the details right (including ones that weren't made public previously). Which means... this fourth kill was maybe done by a bad cop?

It's weird to me that McGlashan would be the quaker. He's the big boss of the city, a professional mobster, no? He's gotta be something bigger than a few murders. Too big for a few murders to be what he goes away on. He can't be dumb enough to leave the bodies laying around--he doesn't need attention, everyone already knows and fears him. Calling that the cop handling Stokes is the killer & framing McGlashan. Levein.

Okay, I've been in a reading slump, but I'm FINALLY back in it. I feel bad for Paton lol. Never done anything wrong in his life (aside from all those wrong things he's done in his life), and yet he's being hunted down like some kind of criminal (a different kind of criminal than the kind of criminal he is). But like. What if him and McCormack met. And what if they maybe.. kissed? (*ノωノ)

Slowly, sloooowly making it through another 5 pages.. so like. I can't be the only one thinking McCormack and Paton, right.

Thank god for google, goddamn. I thought Paton was kinda cool so far, then he whacks a "bluebottle" to death, and I'm like wtf is a bluebottle?? Did he just murder a bird??? No. It's a kind of fly. Jfc.

Okay, with the added detail that these women were separated from their husbands, that kinda changes the motivation of the killer. Not that he was justified for murdering cheaters in the first place, but.. I could see the thinking behind it. If they're separated, what's his reasoning? He was left by a wife who moved on? This is his revenge?

Is McCormack really about to hook up with some random 20 year old kid in a graveyard...? Bit disappointing that every gay character (esp in older settings) is written to be into random anonymous hook-ups (+usually with significantly younger men). Yeah, a lot of gay men did/do that, but not ALL of them. How old is McCormack anyway, mid thirties at LEAST since he's been on the force 13 years. Don't remember if it said.

#1 link between victims is that they're married women going home with another man, no? + his stuff about adultery. Clearly he's got issues with that. So step one is to warn married women to maybe not go clubbing atm. Look for suspects who have an unaccounted for wife/ex who cheated. Could be parent trauma too, like mama left for another man & dad beat kid in turn. Wouldn't be much official record of those things tho.

?? It's been 6 months since the Quaker's last kill, so people think it's over.. but it was 6 months between the first and second, too. Also, how do they know it was the same killer? Only connection so far is they were women who went out dancing(?). That's an "easy target" for anyone–I imagine the Quaker isn't the only one preying on women out enjoying the nightlife.

Like, a cop who maybe desperately needs the investigation to keep going to save their career?
