Does anyone else feel that Roy is sickly sentimental? The writing is good, nothing outstanding (I haven't read God of Small tho). And sometimes, her insights are quite fascinating. She's constructing an ancient city like Delhi with its sprawling panorama, its disparate people. And ofc the political turmoil around Kashmir too. But the execution is just too saccharine for my taste 🙄 don't love picking this up

her sentences can be overwrought, and if not in the right mood can have a slightly nauseating effect. (i have tried and failed to read god of small things twice, seems like i am never in the mood.)
