a little google search told me early Finns were actually taken as slaves themselves.. omg.. but it figures, we quite literally became a country with our own identity in 1917. the rest of the time it's mostly either as a continuation of Russia or Sweden. Well, the more you learn.

aside from ofc viking societies in like, the 9th century when afaik prisoners of war were taken as slaves. once again, Finland DIDN'T even exist as a country back then lmao. like.. leave us out of this ok

i do think this book is written well but i keep hoping it wouldn't lump the entire europe together. like..you can't tell me like us Nordics have anything in common with like, Mediterranean countries. Especially in regards to history. Like afaik Nordics didn't keep slaves, esp during chattel slavery. 🤷

and its crickets when a woman of color is rape in here

like maybe yall should care about protecting all women living in finland from ALL MEN regardless if they were born in finland or not....

this just makes me think of the amount of male politicians in here who suddenly care so much about us women and protecting us "from those evil immigrants" and ignore how many rapes etc are committed by the fellow pale finnish fucker

but like usa obviously has a long horrible history of oppressing its black population, the country literally built upon the backs of its slaves and finland.. doesn't. like the weight of history isn't the same at all

like not saying that finland doesn't have racism because we do holyfuck we do, we are overwhelmingly pale after all and if you look different from that oh boy.. but imo the racism differs from usa, if that makes any sense lmao. not that i am qualified to even say so lol

even stranger that it is not about the skin color a lot of times, more like shades of it. like.. fucking skin color that yall kill people over

i mean we are overwhelmingly pale as fuck but you don't see or hear people saying so. its just finns, romani, sami etc other nationalities. which is why usa's obsession (justified though, looking at their history) with separating people into skin color is incredibly strange

im hoping this isn't super America centric mostly because America's whole society is just so insanely different to my own. like when Americans say 'white" they tend to mean something entirely different than when a Finn like me says it- and finns don't even uae it
