maybe it's because i'm incredibly spoiled by gormenghast rn but the prose in this book is sooo generic fantasy-y...it's mostly fine but sometimes people say things like "okay" and it takes me out of it lol

like if you're going to write a horror novel why would you get rid of two of the SCARIEST THINGS ABOUT MEDIEVAL EUROPE...
