The amount of food-related sexual innuendos used by both main characters in order to maintain the miscommunication of Sophie's actual job as a servant of the viscount's beggars belief. No one goes that long in communication with innuendos without switching metaphors is not a thing.

And it goes beyond a reasonable end.

Colloquial language aside, I kind of enjoy the so-called Dark Viscount. Not so much the physical description of him - which honestly is a dime a dozen in historical romances - but more his intellect and sarcastic sense of humour, which is well conceived by the author. The more I see him, the more I enjoy the story.

First it was easier to listen to audiobooks. Now it is easier to read ebooks, albeit with a larger font for usability at this time.

The good news is, the stupid miscommunication game is nearly over. The bad news is the writing continues to be too colloquially modern to be considered appropriately immersive for a historical fiction.

Well... For a book that is set in the Victorian era it has pretty modern dialogue. Or rather, modern cursing not exactly appropriate for the class of society it purports to represent.

But you know what? Whatever. It's opening gambit is out there enough for historical fiction that I can sort of squint and pretend it's actually some kind of light romantasy story for now.

Going back to a tried and trusted guilty pleasure of a genre read for a lark, hoping I've picked one that has a passably tolerable female lead I can get behind.

Honestly, I was considering a Bridgerton book but I couldn't find a digital copy of the one I wanted on Libby, so this will have to do as I debate buying it on Kindle instead.
