This reminds me of the first lost voice. A true queen & a fake queen. The fake queen is power mad, corrupt, morally bankrupt, kills &tortures children and terrifies the others to keep her power.
Why are Dani and Anias the same person?? Also its teenage girls right? So the 'plot' is a lot of bickering and squabbles, it crawls at a snails pace. The 1st lost voice sucks but the 2nd and 3rd r great.

Like nothing had happened but its almost over? There's no plot they just get attacked randomly, people die, mermaids die, and Meela feels bad sometimes. The romance is meant to progress and since its "forbidden love" or whatever now that she's finally caught it should MEAN something. But not really. I've binge read this book basically and I feel dead inside.

I honestly did not think I would get this far this fast genuinely theres not much plot progression so I've just had to keep reading for things to even HAPPEN. I love that they're getting closer, its super cute, Lysi is sweet but like still a little shady we dont know much about her. Its cute.

FINALLY. On page 199, our two ADULT love interests have a sort of full conversation. Like theres so much violence and Meela as an adult till this point has been so bloodthirsty i was confused that this was the same character. But finally now that Lysi has shown up we'll get to see some development in like stopping this miserable tradition. Idk this feels like ww1 allegory. Too gruesome, I hope the romance picks up

So the mermaids are newcomers from the Atlantic, Eriana is its own langauge and they all learn English in school. Sooo is this an allegory for indigenous struggles? Cuz im enjoying it, its YAey enough im not overwhelmed with information. I like the island and their weird culture. This is just unsustainable fishing if u ask me; u kill the predators that eat the fish so u can have it? Sounds wack but im no islander
