This reads like a memoir because it’s so specific, yet because it’s a novel I found the style to be irritating. Every other paragraph is a metaphor or a reference to a poet or a pop song. It’s a meandering take on commonplace human emotion. Both of the characters involved in the affair take a masturbatory approach at understanding their shared feelings. I am Paul, they are so smart that they’re stupid.
