I keep thinking this book is too abstract and difficult for me and I should give up. Then I open it up at random and I find a good excerpt that speaks to me. Today is was “Can this sin live?” About Lucille Clifton and poems of loss and a slave ship and a homeless woman with her toe sticking out of her shoe. And I was touched and thought I should look up more Clifton poetry.

Mary Also Issues of Blood—I think my comment got lost—worth reading—challenging us to think of someone to touch as Jesus touched the woman in the Bible—and thinking of his beloved rescue dog who had a bullet hidden in him—no wonder he was a neurotic dog. Everyone has hidden issues.

Mary Just read a longer chapter called The White Buffalo about Winan’s family—father and sister in the depths of despair or madness.
