i just keep thinking about how much better rou bao bu chi rou did "travels to hell to bring back someone they love," in a way that was both monotonous and supremely urgent. like i get on a thematic level why r.f. kuang went the "hell is just a grad school campus" route but holy fuck is it boring to read
