Unexpectedly, the flashbacks chapters are just... better than present chapters. Maybe this is the problem I'm having with it. I can't connect to the present timeline as much.

I'm still not sure how I feel about this one. Probably lukewarm. Some parts are working well, but other parts are just unnecessary, making the novel pointlessly long. I get that it's SOL, but is it really essential to the plot to describe them chasing mosquitoes at night?
