There is a wonderful surprising reveal, a clever twist. The big secret. Yet, it has not been celebrated, worse it feels like it has casually been disregarded. Now, I care less about our protagonists than the onslaught that is simmering. However, I wish for a glimmer of a conclusion’s foreshadowing. Right now, this story is meandering far too long.

I’m hooked. I did not see this twist, but everything is lined up and I’m interested in how things turn out.

These characters are unnecessarily aggressive and violent. Psychotic males without consequence are unsettling. This story is a metaphor of a hyper-competitive society that deeply lacks humanity. It is a warped lie, an untruth that does not need to be shared in the collective psyche. Sadly, there are no solutions with compromise, community, and belonging. Healing is necessary.

Many of these secondary characters are detestable. Perhaps it’s Neema’s snobbery which warp’s the narrative, but their actions are simply disgusting. In this world, how can anyone act with justice and compassion? Why would a reader want to stay in this world other than its harsh drama?
