We worked diligently on a daily weekday schedule so that we could play in the evenings and on the weekends.

A good idea is to write out a set of classroom rules. It is valuable to let your children know what is expected, what they can and cannot do. Children need clear boundaries.

When the going gets tough, we are not able to walk away. We cannot send students to the principal or call parents to complain about their child’s discipline problem. We are that parent, and as such we have to deal with it.

Learning Corp and Bridgeway Academy gives these guidelines for the recommended hours per day to homeschool, “We recommend that true homeschoolers spend about an hour to two hours a day for the elementary years, two to three hours a day for the middle school years, and three to four hours a day for the high school years.”

As you begin your homeschool journey, you will need to make a list of goals. Separate your goals into yearly, monthly, and daily lists. Write down a goal list for you personally and also one for each of your children as well. Your goals will vary by school year

People tend to voice their opinions and comment on homeschooling when they have no idea what we do.

Another reason why we love homeschooling is that the lifestyle allows us to schedule more dad time. We love spending as much time as possible with my husband. In the early days of homeschooling, we looked forward to his coming home for lunch. Being at home allows us to work around his schedule for time off to participate in hobbies and entertainment.

A personalized education is beneficial to the child because it teaches to his strengths and helps with his weaknesses. It takes into account what will spark a child’s interest and what will help him learn material most effectively.

It was Socrates who said, “An unexamined life is not worth living.” Are you examining your current situation? Maybe you too want more control of and more flexibility in your schedule

We spent too much time in the evenings trying to get all of the work accomplished. After a full day in school, the last thing my kids wanted to do was sit at the kitchen table looking at more school work. For us, spelling homework was just busy work.
