“Was man, indeed, at once so powerful, so virtuous and magnificent, yet so vicious and bad? He appeared at one time a mere scum of the evil principle and at another as all that can be conceived of noble and godlike.“

If I say that I’m “taking my time with this book and savoring each moment,” does it hide the fact that I’m just really bad at being committed to reading? (Although two things are true are once and I am both relishing taking the time to read this AND also really bad at picking it up again no matter how much I’m reminded I love this damn book with each page I read.)

I’m always so fascinated by the 2nd volume in this book. Is Mary Shelley imagining what it must be like for God or whatever created humanity to view his creation? The ugliness we inflict onto those that are different, and the sometimes explosive volatility of the rejected? And, if so, is God viewing us in pity, or in horror?
