My current theory is that the House (Hazelthorn) is alive and was only kept somewhat in check by the dead grandfather. Now that he’s dead, the House is free to wreak havoc (the garden being included as part of the house.).

Is this better than Don’t let the forest in? Yes. Is this anywhere near as good as I wanted it to be? No. 😭. If the author talks about how frail and delicate and rotted Evander is one more time,,, I may just video game myself. The good: the plot is giving Gifted & Talented by Olivie Blake, so I’m desperately hoping we dive into how crazy all the relatives of Laurie are and their connection to Hazelthorn.
