I know he isn’t trying to be funny by AK has been unexpected hilarious in a very dry, “human behavior is very absurd” kind of way

A surprisingly controversial opinion but having background knowledge of politics, philosophy, and history actually makes classic 1000x more enjoyable and fascinating

I guess I am giving this book a 5/5 this time (third times the charm). Why? The first two times I get into the last two-third’s of the novel I thought Anna to be a delusional clown. Now I just shake my head sadly and mutter ‘you stupid bitch’ under my breath. I want to shake some sense into her. The intro to this edition gave me a completely new perspective to read the book and I am forever grateful for that.

Two reads later and I STILL don’t care about this horse race

the real test of whether or not I can give this five stars is whether or not Anna pisses me off be delusional and fucking stupid. we are at that point in the book again smh

Rereading I realize how genuine Karenin’s love for Anna is :( he is no passionately or flashy lover but it’s no less real :(x1000

rereading with an open mind (all thanks to the introduction) and the most striking thing in these first two parts is how much of this is a game or an act in play for Vronsky. He is so busy not being one of the 'ridiculous' people he treats Kitty and Anna's lives as though he plays no "real"
role in them.
