No matter how much history I read, it will never cease to amaze me how truly insane and amoral people are able to do so much harm in such a short amount of time.

This volume is gripping.

1939 is such a shitty year in history, and this is the 3rd time this week I've heard the story of Hitler singlehandedly dragging a reluctant world into a war that literally no one but him wanted by throwing a few dead concentration camp victims in Polish soldier uniforms and saying, "Look! They started it!" I may know what happens, but it doesn't make it any easier to hear.
