I deeply relate with many of the author’s early experiences of family. I’ve really struggled to explain some aspects of my childhood with others. Like how I could have had 2 houses of family growing up but never really felt home in them. In particular the depictions of being furniture and caring for furniture but not being seen as needing care or knowing how to care for self really hit home hard

Also especially that panel with cleaning the chair. My god, I remember being around 10 years old and it being my regular task to polish all the antique furniture with orange oil. I remember thinking about how long we’d both live, me and the wood. This gets task happens weekly so we’ll both last longer and look nice, and in the end, the wood will win out. That was a dark fucking thought for that age
