A very good book so far, definitely the kind of book that's got all the elements to be made for a Nat 5 star review. Transness, queerness, gender fuckery, death, archives and research, fanfiction, sort of some ace-spec vibes. Very good very good

I was quickly uninterested in this, but left the audiobook playing and now there’s only one hour left sooooo

I deeply relate with many of the author’s early experiences of family. I’ve really struggled to explain some aspects of my childhood with others. Like how I could have had 2 houses of family growing up but never really felt home in them. In particular the depictions of being furniture and caring for furniture but not being seen as needing care or knowing how to care for self really hit home hard

3am is not the time to try and comprehend what this author intends gay mermaid sex to be. I’m going to bed

Gay mermaid kiss! So happy for them! Also I feel like this author understood these characters relationship to vulnerability really well, which made me connect with them more. Also the art on the kiss page is my favorite so far, I lingered, I flipped back to, I still see in the dark of my ceiling

Gay mermaid, gay mermaid, gay mermaid. There are some choices in this book I don’t love, but others I really love. So here for their slow-burn enemies to friends to lovers. Kiss kiss kiss you’re so close!
