Freud could've established his career by just analyzing Andrews. Just this one book, too.

The mom is asking her kids for forgiveness and permission. She's parentifying them so she can continue being a wealthy socialite at the expense of shutting her children up in the attic. The kids, ofc, believe and love her so they continue to follow the rules.

At a writing level, the pattern is getting boring. The kids try to amuse themselves while being frustrated, mom begs for forgiveness, repeat

So... the mom married and had 4 kids with her half-uncle. She's trying to justify it to her children (all under 14yo) by saying that it's normal in other parts of the world, and that since all the kids are 'beautiful' and aren't disabled, that it's all fine.

I'm dreading the incest later on in the book ngl

Has VC Andrews ever actually listened to children speak to each other? I'm having a hard time suspending my disbelief that a 12yo and a 14yo actually articulate like adults
